Nursing training in academic contexts reinforces the need for students to take ownership of and master the discipline of “nursing.” In some countries, nursing training is well established and has the same status as the teaching of other scientific disciplines, with its epistemology, its authors, methods, and so on. In other countries, it is still emerging and its methods are not yet stabilized. The seminar on “teaching nursing ” identified the fundamental epistemological, clinical, and scientific elements of the discipline in order to support its development in France. It aims to identify the basic content related to nursing that should be acquired in initial training and mastered by all nurses. The answers to questions relating to epistemology and paradigms in nursing, clinical learning, scientific culture and research, and nursing education are based on the review of models from other countries, sharing of experiences, and discussions using a prospective vision. The recommendations take into account the changes required and are consistent with public health goals and to the service provided to society. They are complemented by strategies allowing their appropriation by nurses themselves and other professions and other fields.
