The Canadian psychologist Albert Bandura (b. 1925), author of the concept of self-efficacy, is still not well known by nurses. This article offers an outline of his biography and his work. Albert Bandura’s theories provide a positive, dynamic relationship with human agency’s control over events that affect existence. The concept of vicarious learning, self-efficacy, and agency can enrich nursing research.
